Picture yourself in your bedroom. There is a bed, a desk, and an exercise ball in the room, and there's a mat on the floor. When you do your homework, it doesn't matter which way you sit or lie because you will probably get uncomfortable if you stay in the same position for too long. Can you think of some comfortable positions you can sit and lie in as you finish your homework?
Positions you can sit and lie in could include:
- Sitting on the exercise ball. An exercise ball can feel really comfortable, especially after you've been sitting at your desk for a while. Because it's wobbly, the exercise ball stops you from slouching.
- Sitting at your desk. A desk is a good place for you to do your homework, provided you can sit comfortably. After a while working at your desk, it's a good idea to move.
- Sitting on your bed. This can be really comfortable, but your back is unsupported so it might get sore if you sit on your bed for too long.
- Lying on your bed. This can be very comfortable as long as you don't have to reach too far for anything or lie awkwardly. And remember not to spend too long in any one position.
- Sitting on the floor. This can be comfortable, though if your bum starts to get sore, it's time to move to another position.
- Lying on the floor. This position can be really relaxing. After a while, though, the floor starts to feel hard, so it's time to move again.
Some accessories can make you more comfortable when you do your homework, so you'll work better. These include:
A left-hand mouse. A mouse on the left-hand side of your keyboard will be more comfortable because you don't have to reach as far. Even if you're right-handed, it doesn't take that long to get used to the mouse on the left-hand side. Try it!
Document holder. A document holder makes your neck more comfortable because you don't have to twist to see your document. It's better for your eyes too — your eyes can focus more easily when your document and the screen are close to each other.
Clock. It's easy to get sore eyes while working on a computer because we sometimes forget to blink! It's a good idea to turn away from your screen every so often to check the time on the clock or to look out the window.
